ROCHE
WE
INNOVATE HEALTHCARE
As a leading research-driven healthcare company, Roche is working
on ways to preserve and restore health. We develop innovative therapeutic
and diagnostic products and services aimed at addressing significant
unmet medical needs. This is our contribution to improving the lives
of millions of patients worldwide. And we have been doing it day
after day for over a century.
MORE THAN THE SUM OF ITS PARTS
Today Roche is the
global market leader in diagnostics and, as a leading supplier of
prescription medicines in selected therapeuticareas such as oncology,
virology and transplantation, one of the top ten pharmaceutical
companies. Not only are our pharmaceuticals and diagnostics businesses
each successful in their own right, they also work together - pooling
or exchanging know-how, technologies and other resources - whenever
a joint approach makes sound medical, health economic and business
sense. Besides giving Roche a decisive long-term market edge, the
resulting synergies ultimately translate into benefits for the patients,
doctors and laboratories we serve.
TWO HIGH-TECH HEALTHCARE PILLARS
At Roche our focus
is on the diagnosis and treatment of disease - the two cornerstones
of healthcare. High technology is our core competency, and we use
it to create innovative products covering the whole healthcare spectrum.
In the future genetic tests will make it possible to identify people
who are predisposed to particular diseases. This information will
then help guide measures aimed at delaying or even preventing the
onset of disease. Screening tests for high-risk groups will help
health professionals to detect and treat common diseases at an early
stage. Diagnostic tests will be used to identify the most appropriate
therapy for a particular patient, monitor treatment response and
tell the physician whether a change in therapeutic strategy is needed.
This will lead to true managed care.
SAFETY & ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
Roche has long been
aware that only a financially successful company can be active in
environmental and social areas and that financial success only results
if it acts in an environmentally and socially responsible manner.
In this context, we consider sustainable development to mean a long-term
process designed to meet the needs of current and future generations.
Safety and environmental protection are two important invariables
amid changing values. Thus, the assurance of safety and environmental
protection is not only required by law but constitutes an obligation
and at the same time a key success factor in all our business dealings.
OUR SOCIAL COMMITMENT
At Roche we strive
to be good corporate citizens in every country where we do business.
We want to maintain the highest standards of responsible business
practice wherever our activities impact on the environment or on
local, national or international communities.
Spanning the sciences, humanitarian aid, the arts and education,
our contributions to society and the communities we serve take many
forms. Just as societies differ, so do local needs. Therefore, our
approach to corporate citizenship, social responsibility and community
relations is largely defined and implemented at the local level
by the Group's affiliates.
Social responsibility at Roche is all about taking obligations seriously.
It means acting on convictions and values. Our Corporate Principles
state that 'We want to maintain high ethical standards in our business
dealings and in our efforts to protect the environment. 'And we
think our actions speak even louder than words.
